Hearthstone Review

Hearthstone Review

HearthStone! A completely online card collecting game that competes with all the trading card games we know. Made by Blizzard in 2014 this game is still alive and kicking with fairly frequent DLCs that include new dungeons, stories for solo gameplay, cards/decks, heroes and skins!

Compared to other card games there are some major similarities and differences. The rules, abilities, card aesthetic and general feel of the game is very similar to Magic the Gathering. When first starting the game one might think it’s basically an easier version of Magic the Gathering. Yet if you play long enough more abilities become apparent and the rules that once seem to limit the game complexity become a hurdle of their own.

Noting the differences there are is one big elephant in the room when comparing the online versions of all the other major card games out there. Where Magic the Gathering, Yugioh, and others TRY to make online games based off their cards this one takes the cake for one reason. Every card is accessible and at your disposal where the rest typically only have the classics and/or the newest shiniest decks they recently released.

This game is extremely user friendly to the point that it might honestly give off the illusion at the beginning that the game is too simple to enjoy but you will be proven wrong. The art design of this game is fairly basic but the unique animations for differing abilities puts it a tad above average.

As for creativity, I must say I have to give it props, compared to the other card games this one is its own experience. It has grinding, quests, dungeons, and alternative game modes make it so the other ones can’t compare. This brings me to the worth it’s free and you can grind to get every card if you wanted. The game doesn’t come off as pay to win and it’s generally fun. I genuinely enjoy this game and all it has to offer has surprised me.

The good
  • Tutorial is good for people who have never played a card game
  • There's a lot more content to explore compared to other online card games
The bad
  • Blizzard is a China simp
  • While you may not have to grind as much as MTG, it's still a pain compared to games like Shadowverse
